Tilbury 3 Stansted 0 (Att 95)

Tilbury made progress with a 3-0 victory over a gritty Stansted side on Tuesday evening and now meet St Neots Town in the 1st Qualifying Round.

Tilbury had an unchanged line up on a wet evening and went close inside the first minute when Neil Richmond headed over after a Emiel Aiken cross. Stansted did go close when Callum Taylor hit straight at Bogard. Despite the visitors working hard, Tilbury laid siege at times on there goal and defender Joe Nightingill had a great chance on 22 when he could not get his foot to the ball from a Kurt Smith cross. Tilbury eventually took the lead on 27 when a Conor Mead low cross found Tony Martin to place home. On the half hour after a succession of corners, Martin had an effort well saved by the excellent Reece Paine in the Stansted goal. Kurt Smith a few minutes later had 2 efforts after Paine saved and hit the follow up wide. Just before the break Emiel Aiken got himself in the box and was tripped, the referee was in no doubt to award a penalty. Reliable Kurt Smith scored from the spot. Early in the second half a Tony Martin thunderbolt was brilliantly saved again by Paine. Before the hour Aiken had 2 good efforts before Stansted substitute Micah Roy Johnston was a whisker wide. Tilbury continued to play some good football and Richmond and Kurt Smith were the next 2 players to go close. With 2 minutes to go, substitute Francis Babalola crossed from the right and the on rushing Andy Edmunds who had only recently come on fired low to the keepers left.

The results sees Tilbury win an extra preliminary round tie for the 6th consecutive season and now welcome St Neots Town at home on 12th September.

After the game manager Gary Henty commented. "I was pleased again with the football we played. I thought we dominated for long periods and there was some good performances"
