Dockers suffer derby defeat
By Anthony Mercer, 18th Feb 2014

Aveley 2 Tilbury 0 (Attendance 95)

Tilbury conceded two goals late in the game to go down to local rivals Aveley, who gained revenge on Tilbury’s 2-0 victory earlier in the season. The Dockers had chances throughout the game falling to Mitchell Gilbey.
The home side had an early chance when Elbi was clear inside the first two minutes after returning keeper James Marrable saw his save bouncing around the area. Minutes later Piers Wixon beat the offside trap as Tilbury started brightly.
The Dockers went close after 14 minutes when Babalola crossed for Gilbey who’s effort was well blocked by Giddens. 10 minutes later after a mix up in the Aveley defence, saw the midfielder hit over after Babalola had his shot blocked.
Gilbey came close again just minutes later getting on the end of a pull back by Sam Cutler, only to see his effort well blocked by Jay Leader.

Aveley then had their chances, both falling to Kyle Asante. On 30 he dragged his effort wide and 4 minutes later from 6 yards, miss hit his shot at Marrable.
Just before the break Nightingill headed just over the bar. Early in the second half Harrison Tweddell saw his effort saved low by Giddens before the same player fired wide from a Piers Wixon through ball.
The deadlock was broken on 76 when Elbi played in Lee Weemes who shot towards goal only for the ball to come off Ryan Blackman and into the empty net. The goal was given to the former Docker on his second appearance for his new side.
With 10 minutes remaining Tilbury had their best chance of the night and again fell to Gilbey who saw his double effort firstly saved by Giddens as he tried to lob the keeper and Nesbitt blocked the second effort on the line and away to safety. From the resulting corner Nightingill header was cleared off the line again by Nesbitt. With 2 minutes remaining Aveley confirmed the points when Bakare played a good ball through and it saw Koranteng round Marrable to slot home. The Dockers never gave up in the final minutes Giddens was again at his best when he saved well from Sam West in a crowded goal area.

The result sees Tilbury remain in 14th. Tilbury are back in action on Saturday when they make the journey to AFC Sudbury.
