VCD 3 Tilbury 1 (Att 100)

Tilbury dropped to 10th place, after a disappointing Boxing day performance at VCD.

The game marked the 250th appearance of Danny Smith for the club. The home side had the first effort of the game on 3 when Kojo Awotwi hit at Butcher, before Toby Aromolaran saw his effort well saved by Newcombe, 2 minutes later after good work from Jack Barham. Kris Newby then saw his effort well saved by Butcher after a mistake in the visitors defence. The game had a lull, before Awotwi hit across goal and the dangerous Mekhi McLeod hit wide from distance just past the half hour.

Butcher made a fine save just before the break, when McLeod was sent through, but saved onto the bar.

4 minutes into the second half, Tilbury struck when Barham crossed for Reece Hewitt who was unchallenged and headed into an empty net. VCD were back level 7 minutes late when a left wing cross was not cleared and Joe Bruce smashed home. Barham was again in the action as he ran through on the right side of the pitch and struck the post and Hewitt could not finish off. Within a minute it was the home side who then hit the woodwork as Awotwi hit a rasping effort that hit the bar. It was still end to end, but neither team could take the initiative.

On 72 VCD were awarded a penalty when Conor Mead was adjudged to have tripped in the box and Jamie Guy slotted the spot kick home. 3 minutes later Kurt Smith was tripped in the box and the referee blew his whistle and gave a caution for an alleged dive, to the surprise of all.

VCD took control of the game and confirmed all the points in injury time when Jamie Guy was again in hand to fire home after picking up on a defensive mistake.

The result leaves Tilbury in 10th place. They are back in action on Saturday, when they welcome Thamesmead Town. 3pm kick off.

Tilbury: Butcher, Mead, K Smith, D Smith, Beniot, Jaggs (Singh 76), Aromolaran, Carlile, Barham, Martin and Hewitt (Richmond 78).

Unused subs: Nightingill, Peddie and Francis
