Dockers Winning Run Comes to an End

By Anthony Mercer

Tilbury 0 Aveley 2 (Att 106)
Aveley ended Tilbury's long unbeaten league run with a deserved victory at Chadfields. A goal in each half was enough.
Tilbury made just a single change from last weeks win at Phoenix Sports with Jake Pooley replacing Joe Nightingill. In a fast and furious opening, Tilbury started well with Tony Martin having the best effort, but denied by former Dockers keeper James Marrable. Aveley came into the game with both Nash and Fallah getting themselves in to good space, but hitting wide. Aveley took the lead before the break when Abs Seymour got himself in the box and hit low into the net. Before the break Arian Retkoceri had a fine effort for the visitors that whistled over Bogard's crossbar. Before the break Marrable was at his best when Emiel Aiken crossed for Richmond who saw his header brilliantly tipped over. .
Before both sides settled after the break, Aveley scored again when a 47th minute scramble in the box, saw Retkoceri stab home. A few minutes later a clearance by Bogard was mishit and the busy Liam Nash should have scored into an empty net.

Tilbury did have good period in the second half with former Tilbury keeper James Marrable in fine form. Captain Matt Game fired across goal, before substitute Kurt Smith struck the post. Tilbury pushed to get back in the game and Marrable again saved from a point blank shot from Tony Martin. On 77 a Kurt Smith corner found Danny Smith who headed over the top. Late in the game Seymour was denied by a good Bogard save, but Aveley's defence held firm, which left Tilbury's 18 match unbeaten run coming to an end.

The result leaves Tilbury in 8th place.

After the game Manager Gary Henty commented “Nothing seemed to go for us on the day. We kept going right to the end, but you have to give credit to Aveley who came and did a job. We will have to bounce back quickly"

The Dockers are due back in action on Tuesday when they welcome Braintree Town in the Essex Senior Cup with a 7.45pm kick off.
