AFC Hornchurch 1 Tilbury 1 (Att 176)
Tilbury secured a good point in a game they felt they should have taken all 3, against run away leaders AFC Hornchurch. It took a second half equaliser from new signing Harry Norman for the Dockers leave Bridge Avenue disappointed.
Tilbury went in to the game making a single change from there line up with Kris Newby returning to the side, replacing Charlie Little.
On a bright and sunny afternoon Tilbury were dealt an early blow when Kurt Smith was forced off with injury, being replaced by Harry Norman on his debut from Canvey Island.
The game was end to end with little goalmouth action. George Purcell flicked over on 18, before Tilbury defender Simon Peddie was on hand to clear, when Hornchurch beat the offside trap. On 34 Toby Aromolaran saw his overhead kick strike the post. As the game approached half time, a cross from the right saw Christian Assombalonga rise and head past Clarke Bogard, conceding only Tilbury's second goal of the month.
Tilbury came out after the game and there was only one team in the game and Tilbury will be disappointed not to gain all the points. 6 minutes after the break midfielder Tom Anderson saw his effort strike the bar. On 67 Aromolaran was through, but a good last ditch tackle denied him. Just a minute later Tilbury were on level terms, when substitute Harry Norman cut in on his left and hit his low effort sweetly passed the diving Sam Mott for a deserved equaliser.
With the game all one way, Anderson was again close with an effort that went over, before Mott again saved a low Aromolaran effort. A Kris Newby cross inside the last 6 minutes saw the rising Aromolaran head over.
On 86 Tilbury thought they had scored with a power drive effort from Kris Newby from 25 yards, that some how went a whisker wide. In the final minute another long ball from Newby saw Aromolaran run through, beat his defender only to see his effort go wide.
The result sees Tilbury move up to 15th and in the pack at the centre of the league table. Tilbury welcome Haringey Borough next Saturday, hoping to continue there good recent run.
After the game a pleased Tilbury manager Joe Keith commented "I feel we're getting closer and closer to where I expect us to be and it shows where we are with our performances at the minute that we're disappointed with a draw at the champions elect. On behalf of all at Tilbury FC, we wish AFC Hornchurch manager Jimmy McFarlane a speedy recovery"
