Tilbury made progress in the FA Cup with a well-deserved win at Bury Town. Tilbury went into the game making two changes to their line up from Tuesday's win at Canvey Island with Kyan Gulliver and Lewis Jaggs making their first starts of the season in place of Kurt Smith and cup tied George Pullen.

Tilbury started well and the first odd decision of the game came inside 5 minutes when Luke Hornsley saw his header parried by keeper Tibbles, only to see Adam Vyse follow up to push the ball behind the line with his knee, only for the assistant referee not to award a goal, to the surprise of both supporters. Hornsley again caused problems on 8 minutes when he fired over from distance. Ryan Jolland then responded with a mazy run and good effort that Clarke Bogard tipped wide. Cemal Ramadan then had a good effort, but hit the side netting.
Tilbury took the lead on 15 minutes when some good build up play by Ryan Melaugh, found Adam Vyse in space to fire low into the net.
Both sides saw plenty of the ball before the break in an even first half, which was littered with unnecessary stoppages by the referee.
Bury did come at Tilbury early in the second half, but came up against with some good defending. Tilbury grew into the half and went further in front on 61 with a good individual goal from Luke Hornsley. Picking up the ball out on the right, Hornsley went past two defenders and hit a low strike past the outstretched Bury keeper in to the bottom corner. On 67 minutes a speculative cross from Kyan Gulliver, saw Tibbles scampering back to tip the ball over the bar as the ball was going in.
On 69 saw a controversial moment when a cross from the left saw Mills and Bogard challenge for the ball, with Bogard bundled into the back of the net. Initially the referee awarded the goal, before blowing for a free kick. Both sides remonstrated with the referee and it seemed he was unsure what to do, then went across to speak to his assistant. After a long period of time, again changed his decision and awarded the contested goal to the delight of the home crowd. After the game the referee believed it was a foul, but the assistant overruled him as he felt Bogard was in his own net when challenged.

The goal affected Tilbury for a few minutes, before Vyse heading over from a cross. With 9 minutes to go, Bury had a great chance to equalise, but Ollie Canfer from 5 yards missed the target. This seem to affect the home side. Tilbury substitute Michael Salako's first touch in the 83rd minute saw him beat a defender only to see his shot go just over the bar. Due to a number of stoppages, Bryan Kyungu in the 7th minute of stoppage time saw his shot go a whisker wide.
Seconds later the final whistle came and the Tilbury players celebrated with their supporters.

After the game captain Jack Carlile commented "Delighted with the result. We deserved to progress and credit to my team mates who dug in after the poor decision to award Bury Town's goal. We focused and ensured this would not affect us and go on to win"

The Dockers have a week off before a double header next weekend, with a visit to Romford on Saturday and Brentwood Town on Monday.
