U13 Match Report - Tilbury 5 – 0 Doddinghurst - 18th April 2010 Empty U13 Match Report - Tilbury 5 – 0 Doddinghurst - 18th April 2010

Doddinghurst's results in recent weeks have been very impressive which had resulted in them moving steadily up the table. With several notable absences from the Tilbury side (due to injuries), we knew they were likely to be a much tougher challenge than the team we beat 11-0 in the return fixture earlier this season.

The match was played on an unseasonably warm afternoon at the Gateway Academy. A capacity crowd of almost fifty were there to enjoy the spectacle in the sunshine.

Doddinghurst kicked off with the sun at their backs (and in the Tilbury keeper's eyes!). The first few minutes were evenly contested with few goal-scoring opportunities for either side. Once again, Tilbury started to assert themselves on the game and were soon rewarded with a goal. A ball was played through the centre of the visitors' defence for Paul Elliot to run onto. He slotted the ball under the advancing keeper into the bottom corner. Doddinghurst had a couple of attempts on goal soon after, the best of which was from a free-kick needlessly given away by a Tilbury defender just outside the box. Luckily on this occasion, the ball whistled over the bar. The first-half ended with Tilbury leading 1-0.

Then came an inspired tactical change by the Tilbury management team bringing on Tyler White who scored two goals in three minutes at the start of the second period. The first of his goals followed a shot by Paul Elliot which was well saved by the keeper who tipped the ball to his left. Tyler raced in to smash the ball into the net before a Doddinghurst defender could clear. His second (and Tilbury's third) was another well-taken effort - Tyler was put clean through on goal - her rounded the keeper and smacked the ball into the bottom corner.

The fourth goal followed a shot by James Wade which struck a defender and looped up into the box towards the keeper. In true opportunist fashion, Paul Elliot raced in to head the ball over the advancing keeper.

Paul Elliot completed his hat-trick ten minutes before the end following an excellent through-ball which put him clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat. He controlled the ball before unleashing a powerful shot which the keeper managed to block. The ball broke to Paul who slotted the ball into the empty net.

Tilbury had three other goals disallowed following infringements spotted by the linesman. At least one of these decisions looked very dubious. Nonetheless, the Tilbury side continued to work hard and were ruthless in front of goal. Doddinghurst also had several opportunities to narrow the deficit, but their finishing was not good enough to trouble the Tilbury keeper.

Once again this was another good Tilbury performance against a much-improved Doddinghurst side. The match was played in great spirits throughout and was a great spectacle in the bright sun.

Well done boys - keep up the pressure on Romford at the top of the League.
