Match Report as follows :-
The Dockers travelled to Halstead Town on Easter Sunday for their penultimate fixture of this EJA season. This may be the holiday season but there was little cheer to be given by Halstead. The game was moved from their usual ground due to fixture congestion and we found ourselves playing on probably the worst pitch we have seen all season. So bad was the pitch that It seemed you were kicking up hill in both first and second half.
The Halstead fans had been uncomplimentary on their visit to Tilbury and were to once again prove not the most welcoming opposition supporters we have encountered. Tilbury people being accused of being “up their selves” was a first for me. Chavs, caravan people, etc but never snooty !!

The Dockers were missing Luke and Adam who were away for Easter, and rested both Bradley Glover and Sam Chilvers due to their Impending trip to Hong Kong. Mark Onyemah passed a fitness test prior to kick off but was only 80% fit.

Halstead won the toss and decided to kick down the biggest slope with the wind behind their backs. The Town were quickest out of the blocks and forced an early good save from Jordan who had to get down smartly to his left and with a strong hand push the ball wide for a corner. The ensuing corner also called Jordan into action as he came through a plethora of players to punch out for another corner.

The referee seemed to favour the home side in the early fractious exchanges as he continually called for fouls against the Dockers midfield which in the most part was for shielding the ball ? However for all of the efforts of Halstead they never broke past a resolute Tilbury defence.
Robbie Clarricoats created havoc in the Town backline as he burst down the right and fired in a wonderful cross which Ben Foord fired over when it seemed he was certain to score. Frustration was starting to creep into Tilbury’s play as they were victim of some heavy un punished challenges but were still being pulled up for innocuous looking challenges in and around the midfield.
Eventually the frustration boiled over when Flynn Linard was the victim of a poor challenge and in an exchange of words with the home player the referee decided to show the young Docker a red card on twenty two minutes. Obviously he felt any comments were directed to him. Still a harsh lesson to be learnt by all players, play football with your feet and not your mouth !

The most disappointing aspect of the red card being shown was the applause from sections of the home support.

Tilbury now upped their game feeling somewhat hard done by and started to press Halstead at every opportunity. When a free kick was awarded to Tilbury midway in the home half Warren Gibson tested the home keeper with a delightful strike at goal which the keeper did well to tip over the bar for a corner. James Killingback saw his header whistle just past the post as the half drew to a close.

So an eventful first half ended 0-0 and the Dockers a chance to regroup.

The second half saw Jesse Blohm come on for Ben Foord, Garret Kelly replaced James Killingback as a precaution, due to James seemingly being persecuted for his tough tackling no nonsense style.

The Dockers started the second half brightly and were soon pressing the home side onto the back foot for long periods as they used both the width and when necessary long balls into the channels.
Connor Horan who was outstanding throughout won yet another ball in the middle of the field and played an inch perfect defence splitting pass through to Robbie who shrugged of the defenders challenge before calmly picking his spot and slotting past the keeper for 1-0 Dockers amid loud applause from the away following. So fifty minutes gone and the breakthrough had finally come.

Tyrell Phillips now replaced Bradley Filsell on the left of midfield and he too started to cause problems for the Town defence, whilst Jesse was starting to play some delightful football particularly his linking with Garret and the superb Ronnie Dean down the right. Eventually another defence splitting pass, this time from Jesse through to Robbie and the finish was, I do not hesitate to say, “World Class” as the irrepressible Mr Clarricoats lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net for 2-0 Tilbury after fifty nine minutes.

Tilbury then calmly saw the game out with Bradley Glover replacing the struggling Mark Onyemah. The Dockers then played some of their best football of the day as they stroked the ball around with confidence. One last scare for Tilbury was when a bouncing ball came through to Jordan and as he decided to chest trap the ball rather than catch it the bounce was higher than expected and he had to quickly grab the ball as everybody took a sharp intake of breath.

A good job done against a strong willed Halstead Town who could easily have made life difficult for the Dockers. The Tilbury lads showed they can cope in the face of adversity when securing this well earned victory having played most of the game with ten men.

Although a nasty game and a bad atmosphere, it was one of the most enjoyable I've seen for a long while. What a second half performance from the boys.

I'm a proud dad tonight afro
