Tilbury 3 Canvey Island 0 (Att 157)

Tilbury produced a good all round performance to see off rivals Canvey Island with Tilbury in control for long periods of the game. Tilbury also saw there 3rd consecutiveclean sheet.

Tilbury went into the game, making 2 changes to there line up. George Sykes replaced captain Kris Newby and new signing Lance Akins replaced the suspended Darren Phillips.

It was the former Canvey strike force of Mitchell Gilbey and George Sykes who caused problems throughout the afternoon.

Tilbury started strongly in a wind assisted first half. George Sykes hit a low effort at goal after good work from Ryan Ramsey, before former Docker Adam Vyse blocked a goal bound effort from Oli Spooner. Tilbury had a succession of corners, before they were awarded a penalty on 27. Sykes got himself into the box, before keeper Harry Palmer took him down and a spot kick was awarded. Lewis Smith made no mistake from the spot.

It was 2-0 four minutes later when the Canvey defence failed to deal with a cross from Lewis Smith and leaving Mitchell Gilbey at the back post to score from close range.

Canvey's only first half effort fell on half time when Vyse put Gilbert through, but his lob went over the crossbar.

George Sykes should have wrapped things up two minutes into the second half when a long ball sent the striker through on goal, but he miss hit his shot went wide of the goal.

It was game over with 20 minutes remaining when Ryan Ramsey ran down the left before crossing for the onrushing Tommy Barton to score past Palmer.

Late in the game, Canvey introduced the experienced striker Martin Tuohy and he livened up a lacklustre Canvey side and had a good attempt with seconds to go, but Rhys Madden saved, as he was intent on keeping a clean sheet.

Lewis Smith had a late effort cleared off the line.

The result sees Tilburymove up one place to 8th, but 9 points outside the playoffs.
