Grays Athletic 3 Tilbury 1
Grays beat Tilbury to earn the double this season, after coming from behind to win in a match played in difficult conditions. A strong wind blowing down the park made it tricky for both sets of players who nevertheless provided their fans with plenty of excitement throughout the ninety minutes. It was a game both sides could have scored more.
Tilbury made 3 changes to there line up. The home side had the wind at their back and it took time for them to adapt, as they over hit passes, allowing the Dockers to easily clear any danger.
Jamie Slabber had the first opportunity of the half, but was denied by a good Bogard save. Tilbury had an early chance with Emiel Aiken found space out wide and sent in a low cross forcing Johnson into a smart save. Vyse was next to threaten when he was given too much room and drove into the box flashing a low drive across Johnson and wide of the far post.
Tilbury were rewarded for the promising start when on 13 minutes tom Dance laid a simple ball to Ryan Melaugh who made no mistake from twenty yards drilling the ball into the bottom corner past Johnson's' dive.
On 34 Adam Vyse saw his header cleared off the line. This kicked started Grays who equalised 2 minutes later. From a clearance Grays claimed their own corner that was only partially cleared, the ball finding Ade Cole who out thought 2 defenders and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
Grays looked strong after the break and it only took 3 minutes to go in front. Bishop chased Tilbury into an error, presenting himself with an opportunity which he readily accepted outpacing Salami and cutting inside he made no mistake drilling a low shot past the diving Bogard.
After the goal Tilbury could so easily have equalised from a corner but thanks to a great save from Johnson from Aiken, touching a powerful header on to the bar and rebounding to safety. On 56 Grays increased the lead when Dockers failed to clear the ball cleanly and it fell to the lurking Zuhdu who sent in a low drive which was blocked only to rebound to Ryan Mahal who made no mistake firing the ball home.
The Blues were indebted to Johnson to deny Tilbury when Aiken saw Johnson at full stretch push away his effort, Vyse picked up the loose ball and should have scored but Johnson forced him to rush his shot which hit the side netting.
Tilbury continued to push forward but were coming up against a resilient Blues defence who held firm with some crucial blocks frustrating the visitors. ON 69 substitute Michael Salako saw his low shot brilliantly saved by the excellent Lemar Johnson. In the final minute Bryan Kyungu had the visitors last opportunity cutting through on goal he rushed his shot seeing the ball fly high and wide.
Seconds later the final whistle went to gibe Grays a win.
Tilbury go in Tuesday's game Essex Senior match v Harlow Town with new manager Joe Keith being in attendance for the first time.

The result sees Tilbury drop to 15th place.
