Tilbury 2 Cheshunt 0 (Att 54)

Tilbury returned to winning ways on Tuesday night with a deserved 2-0 victory over play off rivals Cheshunt. On a cold and frosty night, manager Gary Henty made 2 changes to his line up with Jack Carlile and Toby Aromolaran returning to the side in place of Toch Singh and Lewis Francis.

The opening quarter of the game was a tight affair on a pitch that played well considering the cold and frosty conditions. Striker Jack Barham had a good early run and a low effort easily saved by Gooch in the visitors goal.

On 28 Simon Peddie played a good ball through to Jack Barham who tried to beat the keeper, who brought him down in the box giving the referee an easy choice to point to the spot. After a short delay due to injury to Gooch, Kurt Smith placed his penalty home. Cheshunt had a good chance, 3 minutes later when Michael Kalu saw his effort from 25 years go wide, before Jason Hallet hitting wide from a dangerous cross from the left.

Tilbury made it 2-0 on 37 when Reece Hewitt found himself in space on the left and crossed for Jack Barham who headed home comfortably. Before half time, Kurt Smith found Joe Nightingill who saw his header just go wide.

After the break Cheshunt came into the game and looked dangerous, but the centre half pairing of Joe Nightingill and Simon Peddie kept Cheshunt's forward line quiet. John Nzengo had a good effort on the hour, which Lee Butcher saved well. Substitute Lewis Francis saw 2 late runs and crosses well defended. In the final few minutes Tilbury's Neil Richmond saw his header from a Hewitt corner go just over.

Tilbury returned to the top 5, just 3 points behind the leaders Maldon and Tiptree. On Saturday, Tilbury travel to the leaders for an all important fixture.

Tilbury: Butcher, Mead, K Smith, Peddie, Nightingill, Jaggs, Aromolaran (Francis 78), Carlile, Barham, Richmond (Singh 90) and Hewitt

Unused subs: Beniot, Cook and Martin
