Lewes 1 Tilbury 1 (Att 422)
Tilbury and Lewes will have to do it again on Tuesday night after a tight FA Trophy tie at the lovely surroundings of the Dripping Pan. Tilbury went into the game on the back of 7 games undefeated and left Sussex disappointing not to be in the next round after some good second half chances.
It was a bright opening from Tilbury that saw Kurt Smith fire wide and Tilbury defending had to be at its best. The best chance of the half fell to scoring machine Dwade James when he fired just wide with a one on one. Lewes's Jamie Brotherton went very close on 25 when his rasping free kick flew just past of Butcher's left hand post. Tilbury had a good period before the break as Lewes slowly came into the game. Just before half time Aromolaran and Kurt Smith went close.
Tilbury did take the lead on 53 when Kurt Smith picked up on a mistake in the Lewes defence and played the ball to Dwade James who volleyed home. The lead lasted just 5 minutes when Lewes were awarded a penalty for handball against Conor Mead and Brotherton hit home off the post. Toby Aromolaran was played in by Neil Richmond on 69 minutes and controlled well, only to see Winterton save with his feet.
With just over 10 minutes to go, Wale Odedoyin and new signing Jamie Age were introduced and made an immediate impact on the game. Age got down the right, crossed for Odedoyin who swung his right foot, only to see the ball bounce off the post. In the final 2 minutes, both sides had chances. On 88 Jack Dixon saw his effort from 25 yards go over, before Conor Mead hit a speculative effort from 40 yards that saw the keeper spill the ball, but away to safety.
Tilbury welcome Lewes to Chadfields for the replay on Tuesday night, before welcoming Bowers and Pitsea on Saturday.
After the game, manager Gary Henty commented. "Pleased with our performance, but disappointed not to be through to the next round. The boys will be ready for Tuesday, looking to make it to Kingstonian in the next round.
