Tilbury Storm Back to Win

Tilbury 3 Bury Town 1 (Att 68)

Tilbury came from behind to beat Bury Town to see Tilbury retain 9th spot. On a bright sunny afternoon, Tlbury saw the return of Kurt Smith, Joe Nightingill, Neil Richmond and Francis Babalola to the squad following suspensions and injury.
The first half was a scrappy affair with chances at a premium. On 6 minues Luke Stanley blasted over from the edge of the area and Ollie Canfer hit across the goal for the visitors. Josh Mayhew was denied by a last ditch block from Danny Smith on 32, before Tilbury attacked and Dwade James who was one on one, hit just wide.
On the hour Tilbury had there best chance when Emiel Aiken broke down the left, but was denied by a fine Neil O'Sullivan save, that kept his side in the game.
From the next attack, the visitors struck, when a ball from Josh Mayhew found substitute Daniel Hammett at the back post to fire home, after only being on the pitch for 3 minutes.
Tilbury hit back 3 minutes later when captain Matt Game crossed for Kurt Smith who volleyed home for a fine goal from the edge of the area. On 70 Kurt Smith hit just over as Tilbury took control of the game. The introduction of Tony Martin and Neil Richmond swung the game Tilbury's way. On 73 Richmond hit his low shot against the post, but Kurt Smith was on hand to tap home in to an empty net. A minute later O'Sullivan made another good save from Tony Martin's header. It was all Tilbury and on 75 substitute Martin found another substitute Neil Richmond who headed home to make it a deserved 3-1. Tilbury pushed hard and Martin hit wide from a Kurt Smith through ball, before the visitors finished well with Nick Ingram rounding Clarke Bogard only for Danny Glozier to clear off the line. In the final minute an over the top tackle by Connor Hall on Kurt Smith only saw a yellow card produced.

The result leaves Tilbury in 9th place. The Dockers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Redbridge for the long awaited Essex Senior Cup quarter final.

After the game a delighted Manager Gary Henty commented "It took Bury Town to score, for us to start playing. We dictated the second half and a good comeback from the boys. The substitutions were key and I want to see the lads finish the season well. Congratulations also go to Clarke Bogard, who became the first Tilbury player for 37 years, to pass 50 appearances in a season"

Tilbury: Bogard, Webb, Glozier, D Smith, Pooley (Nightingill 28), Game, Stanley (Richmond 67), Carlile, James (Martin 57), Aiken, K Smith
