Brightlingsea Regent 1 Tilbury 4 (Att 186)

Tilbury returned to winning ways on a wet night at North Road. The two teams went into the game in good form with Regent 8 unbeaten in the league and Tilbury being 17 unbeaten in all competitions before Saturday's 4-3 defeat against Conference National side Welling United. It was the visitors who won this game deservedly so, with a powerful display full of intensity that saw them gain the 3 points and move just outside the play offs with games in hand.
The game started at a fast pace on a slippery surface and it took until midway through the half before Tilbury took control and went close after a driving run saw the cross just headed wide. Another bursting run this time from the left saw the ball just scrambled clear with Josh Gould and Warren Joseph both clearing from the line. After 37 minutes the visitors took the lead that their play was beginning to warrant down the right by the effective Emiel Aiken who found Harry Cook to head home past Bowles. This saw a Cook celebration that only be said, Backward roll, knee back-flip and belly flop. Within 3 minutes it was 2-0 when Kurt Smith went on a maize run, his weak effort bounced to the feet of Emiel Aiken to slot home.
Regent started the second period better and a good ball into the box was met by Grigges who fired over. Tilbury increased the lead on 55 when a mistake in the home defence saw Aiken head the ball to Tony Martin who picked the ball up and fired from 20 yards into the roof of the net. Moments later Tilbury defender Ollie Hanlon had the ball in the net, but was ruled out by an assistants flag. Regent did pull a goal back on 65 when Terry Rymer picked the ball up and hit past the advancing Clarke Bogard home. Rymer trying to retrieve the ball was then caught in the melee in the goalmouth and after delay, was sent off for an alleged biting incident seen by the referee. With Tilbury having the man advantage, Tilbury scored there final goal of the evening when Emiel Aiekn got down the right, crossed into the box and Harry Cook came running in left footed to score. Home keeper Ollie Bowles saved Regent with two outstanding saves from going further behind with a strong right hand before a close smothering save. Regent were denied a penalty late in the game following a push in the area. It was a powerful display from the Tilbury who took the plaudits at the final whistled.
After the game Manager Gary Henty commented “A really pleasing evening. We created numerous chances throughout the evening and we got what we deserved".
The Dockers attention now turns to Saturday when they welcome Witham Town.
