Brightlingsea Regent 5 Tilbury 0 (Att 96) Anthony what game was you watching mate affraid their 5 goal lamar had enough time to just roll the ball to sam west 4 yards to his right, instead of trying to be cleaver and flick the ball over the forwards foot. up to that point with a forward anything like the brightlingsea lads we could have been and most prob would have been back in the game. lets hope remy and harry are back soon and smugger at right back.

An excellent first half performance by Brightlingsea Regent saw them coast passed an under par Tilbury side on Saturday afternoon, with 4 goals coming in the first 35 minutes.

Tilbury missed Tom Wood due to injury and Harry Cook who was unavailable, which gave manager Gary Henty a chance to blood Ruben Duarte and substitutes Charlie Glesinger and Alvaro Cabral off the bench.

Brightlingsea started well looking for revenge following a 2-1 loss to the Dockers on the opening day of the season and took the lead inside 2 minutes and were even reduced to 10 men on the final 30 minutes of the game.

Regent started at a great pace and took the lead with a good move that saw Brothers cross for Ben Newson to hit passed Johnson. The home side laid siege on Tilbury’s goal with both Newson and Kelly causing problems. On 21 it became 2-0 when the same 2 payers teamed up well and on this occasion Newson curled home for a fine effort.

With Tilbury not troubling the home wide, it came as no surprise when it became 3 on 30 when a Griggs corner found Matt Cripps on the edge of the area to volley home with a small help of a deflection. Within 5 minutes the home side put the game out of sight with Cripps again scoring with his head to send the game in at half time 4-0 up.

Tilbury made an immediate substitution after the break with Webb on for Johnson.

Tilbury did start the second period better and on 49 had their first effort of the afternoon when Flack shot at goal.

On 59 the home side were dealt a blow when the influential Michael Brothers saw red after picking up his second yellow card, which seemed a harsh decision.

Tilbury did have quite a lot of possession but the home side stayed strong and they were restricted to long shots. On 72 Kelly had his effort well saved by Johnson before Jack West had an effort well saved by home keeper Plummer. The resulting corner saw Nightingill head at the keeper. Substitute Cabral had a good chance but was well saved and Jack Carlile’s free kick was a whisker over. In the final minute Brightlingsea got there 5th of the afternoon when Nightingill played back a ball to Johnson who before could control and set, saw Kelly steal the ball and roll in to an empty net.

Seconds later the referee put Tilbury out of their misery on a disappointing and flat afternoon.

After the game captain Sam West was very forthright in his comments. It was just not good enough from start to finish, it’s a day to forget about and make sure never happens again! We need to all stand up and be counted and not be easy to beat and just roll over! People need to fear playing against us, at the moment we are far too nice and easy to breakdown. We need to make sure we are at the very least giving 110% every single game, everyone can make a mistake or have a bad day but there is never a reason or excuse for not giving 110% effort! The whole team let the gaffer, the staff, fans and chairman down and we need to firstly apologise for the performance first half and make sure it never happens again. Was not good enough and we now need to all stick together and make sure we have a reaction next Saturday v Burnham Ramblers.

Was even more disappointing after our recent good run of results in the league and positive performances all round. Hopefully it was just a one off.

The result leaves Tilbury sitting in 21st place.

Tilbury are not back in action until next Saturday when they welcome basement side Burnham Ramblers in the League. 3.00pm kick off
