Match Report - U13s v FC Redwing (14/2/2010) Empty Match Report - U13s v FC Redwing (14/2/2010)

After the disappointment of defeat in the Cup last week, our lads turned on the style today to comprehensively beat FC Redwing 9-0 in the first League game of the new year.

Lewis and Mark had a limited selection of players available with Sam now out for the remainder of the season and Scott being unfit to play following a recent asthma attack. We wish both players a speedy recovery.

The boys started slowly but grew in confidence as the game unfolded. The two forwards were Paul and Charlie in the first half with Charlie playing slightly behind Paul. This seemed to work well with the ball "over the top" catching out the Redwing defence as Paul raced through on goal on several occasions. But for some excellent saves by the visitor's goalkeeper, Tilbury could have been a couple of goals up in the first few minutes. As it was, the home team remained patient and stroked the ball around nicely as they sought openings. Paul Elliott opened the scoring after eight minutes with a well taken goal. Tilbury continued to press and Paul scored a second five minutes later. Three minutes before the interval Cameron Stansfield ran out of defence and slotted a pass through to Paul for him to turn and complete his first-half hat-trick.

Lewis and Mark made two changes during the interval bringing on Ricky MacCabe and Tyler White. Ricky slotted into defence whilst Tyler replaced the excellent Charlie Wilson up-front.

FC Redwing kept battling but were clearly being outplayed by a well organised Tilbury side. Tilbury spent almost the entire second-half camped in the opposition's half. They were rewarded within minutes of the re-start with yet another goal from Paul Elliot.

George Moore went close on a number of occasions, the best of which was a long-range effort from outside the box which went just over the crossbar. The impressive Joe Carter also went close on a number of occasions but the Redwing keeper continued where he left off in the first-half making more excellent saves.

Liam was having a very quiet game in the Tilbury goal but was called into action on a couple of occasions when Redwing ventured up-field. His positional awareness has been much better in recent weeks, standing on the edge of his box to act as a sweeper when needed.

Billy Smith has also been particularly impressive of late, making probing runs into the opposition's half and battling hard for every loose ball. He seems to be very effective in the midfield though he gets plenty of support from the dependable captain Billy Dahl who quietly goes about his work in a business-like fashion.

Tilbury wore Redwing down and shored five more goals - four more for the irrepressible Paul Elliott and a long-range screamer from Tyler White.

The entire team played well this week after a slow start. Everyone worked hard to regain possession when it was lost and the passing and movement was testament to the hard work being done in training each week. Everyone looked comfortable in their positions, battled hard for the team and did the simple things very well.

A man-of-the-match performance (unofficial of course!) from Paul Elliot was the icing on the cake. His eight goal haul was an outstanding achievement but one that wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of all his team-mates.

Congratulations boys on another outstanding performance!
