Match report Home v Waltham Abbey Via Mr Anthony Mercer.
Tilbury lose 3-2 against a hard-working Waltham Abbey side with all the goals coming in the first 45 minutes. Obersteller and Wixon score for Tilbury.
Tilbury suffered a disappointing defeat in 5 goal first half to effective Waltham Abbey side. The Dockers made two changes with Jack West making his first start on his 2nd spell with the club and Joe Christou returning to the side. On a sunny warm afternoon, the crowd were entertained in a 8 minute spell that saw 4 goals. Abbey had the best of the opening with Pearman shooting just over inside 5 minutes. Tilbury took the lead on the quarter hour mark when Jack West flicked a ball on to Joe Obersteller to fire home for his first goal for the club. Within 3 minutes it was 1-1 when Coley crossed from the right and Darelle Russell headed home unmarked. It took Tilbury just 2 minutes to regain the lead when Wixon dribbled around 3 defenders and played the ball to Elliott Johnson who crossed for Wixon to latch on to a volley that flew into the net. On 23 it was level again when a free kick on the right from Coley found the the head of former Docker Bradley Barnes who headed low into the net. Within seconds Coley should have had a penalty when Marrable brought him down in the box, but surprisingly the referee booked the player for diving. Both sides had chances up to the break to put there side in front with Russell for the visitors and Obersteller for the home side. With only 3 minutes to the break Abbey were awarded a free kick on the right. Pearman whipped in an in swinging cross and found Tom Bruno to dive at the ball and into the corner of the net.
The second period was a quieter affair and on 71 Coley hit just wide before Cutler had his shot well saved by Ben Barnes. On 79 Jack West had tame effort cleared off the line before a late substitution saw Babalola go close. Abbey saw the game out and took a well deserved three points. The result sees Tilbury drop 2 places to 16th. The sides meet again in April. Tilbury are back in action on Thursday when they welcome Redbridge.
